Cross Country Skiing
Hut to Hut tour
Dalseter Norway

Trip Overview

Dalseter is situated at the top of the mountain valley of Espedalen at 930 meters above sea level and has a wonderful view of the valley and the mountains in Jotunheimen National Park.

There are endless skiing possibilities from the door, through forests, across the lake and through the magnificent Norwegian wilderness. Along with reliable snow, the quality and variety of routes both on and off track combine with excellent instruction to make this an ideal venue for all ability levels.

This 7-day trip (5 ski days) in Norway is designed to teach you the basics of Nordic skiing

and introduce groups to the joy of hut to hut touring.

Whilst some previous skiing experience is helpful, it is not essential as this trip,

it is primarily aimed at novices. Nordic skiing is not only a fantastic way of staying fit

but it is easy to learn, meaning that even beginners will soon be out exploring the trails.

Is This Trip for You?

This week is designed for complete beginners.

Inevitably we start with the basics, including how to stop using the snowplough technique and how to turn. You will be on skis for at least 5-6 hours a day with a focus on tuition, getting comfortable on skis and building towards longer tours through the winter landscape. For at least 4 of the 5 days skiing, you will be on full day tours, returning only at the hotel or mountain hut at the end of the day's skiing.

Outline Itinerary

Day 1 Travel

The group will travel independently to Dalseter. There are a few options but unless you are hiring a car the best option from Olso is by train via Lillehammer to Vinstra. A taxi or local bus will then

take you to the Hotel.

Day 2 Dalseter

0800 - 1700

Start of three days of cross-country ski training.

We prefer not to specify in advance where we will ski each day. This is to allow

flexibility and adapt to weather and snow conditions and to some extent the ability

of each group. The next few days is a guide.

Beginners will start on a flat area of land next to the hotel where it’s safe to get a feel for the

skis and the basic techniques.

After three days instruction the group will depart on a four day tour, staying in a mountain huts

overnight.

Day 3

Cross-country skiing around Dalseter

0800 - 1700

There is an endless range of skiing possibilities on varied tracks through forests and open

country, as well as a good selection of downhill runs. The off-track touring is excellent

and takes us above the tree line where there is a vast expanse of wilderness to explore

Day 4

Venturing further afield

0800 - 1700

By now beginners will have mastered the basics and the days are spent out exploring the

rugged mountains and dense forest. More advanced skiers will venture into the stark

wilderness above the treeline. Skiers of all abilities will fall in love with the sheer

magnificence of the beautiful Norwegian winter landscape.

Day 5 - 8 Hut tour

0800 - 1700

Today we set off on our four day hut tour into more remote areas. We will set off and ski

along some trails but mostly off piste to remote mountain huts. These mountain huts are

managed by the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) and are very comfortable.

We will spend each night at a hut relaxing around the log fire.

Each day we will ski to another hut before returning to the comfort of the hotel on the final night.

Day 9 Travel

The group will travel home independently. Advice on travel will be provided.
